Bushing Replacement and Resizing

Bushing burnishing is carried out to correctly size the bushings in a fork. Fork bushings which have insufficient oil clearance generate a large amount of friction and stiction which ruin the small bump sensitivity and translates to a fork which feels harsh.

The oil clearance is chosen carefully to provide the optimum oil film without knocking or any play. We use precision machined burnishing dies with a +/-10μm. tolerance. Currently we have dies for  32,34,35,36,38 and 40mm, if you have another fork with a different sized stanchion which you’d like the bushings sized, get in contact with us at info@altasuspension.co.uk with requirements which allow us to discuss with the supplier of the tool about custom dies being made up.

Bushings are checked in a full service and determined if burnishing is required. If your are interested in this service but don’t require the full service send us an email at info@altasuspension.co.uk

Bushing replacement is required when the bushing has worn, this can be from use or lack of servicing.

Bushing replacement involves removing and reinstalling new bushings at a specific depth in the fork. The bushings are then sized using the burnishing tool which ensures optimum performance.

This costs £80 for fox for both legs done, this also requires removal and replacement of the wiper seals if fitted . For rockshox send us an email at info@altasuspension.co.uk  to discuss the options.
